Aloha Sloppy Joes

These are not your mama’s Sloppy Joes! Fly away to the shores of Hawaii with these sweet and tangy sandwiches!

Ingredients: 
6 oz. center cut bacon
1 lb. ground beef or extra lean ground turkey
1 medium onion, diced
1 green pepper, diced
2 tsp. minced garlic
1 tsp. fresh ginger, minced
¾ cup ketchup
⅓ cup pineapple juice
2 tbsp. brown sugar
1 tbsp. cider vinegar
½ tsp. Reese Hickory Liquid Smoke
2 tbsp. soy sauce
Pineapple rings (optional)
Red onion rings (optional)
Salt and pepper, to taste
Directions: 
1. Preheat oven to 425 degrees.
2. Place bacon in an aluminum foil lined baking sheet. Cook for 15 minutes or until crisp. On a paper towel-lined plate, lay bacon to drain grease. Set aside.
3. In a skillet, combine ground beef or turkey, onion, pepper, garlic, and minced ginger. Cook until brown.
4. In a small bowl, blend ketchup, pineapple juice, brown sugar, vinegar, liquid smoke, and soy sauce.
5. Add sauce to the meat. Bring mixture to a simmer and then decrease low, allowing the sauce to reduce and thicken.
6. Once thick, remove from heat. Crush bacon and add to meat. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
7. Serve on your bun of choice.
8. Garnish with pineapple rings and red onions.
